Mike Ferriter made an immediate impact in his return to Idaho State as the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach. In 2018 eight offensive players earned all-conference honors as quarterback Tanner Gueller earned second-team while Mitch Gueller and Brian Fineanganofo earned first-team.

James Madison and Michael Dean earned second-team honors while Dallen Collins, Austin Campbell and Ty Flanagan earned honorable mention.

Ferriter provided the Bengal offense opportunities to succeed all season. The offense tallied 5,403 total yards, the third most since the 1981 National Championship season.

The 2019 season saw Mitch Gueller become the all-time leading receiver in program history while Tanner Conner, Dallen Collins and Gueller earned all-conference. In the 2021 spring season, quarterback Tyler Vander Waal was named the Big Sky Conference Newcomer of the Year and earned second-team all-conference.

Prior to coming back to Idaho State, Ferriter spent three years at Montana (2015-17) coaching the wide receivers. In 2017, Ferriter also served as the passing game coordinator for the Griz.

Prior to Montana, Ferriter came to Idaho State in 2012 after spending two years as an offensive graduate assistant at UNLV. In his first year at ISU he coached Luke Austin, who earned second-team all-Big Sky Conference. Austin's 951 receiving yards was the seventh most in program history and his 11 touchdown receptions tied for the second most in ISU history.

Ferriter was a stand-out receiver at Montana where he was a three-year starter and the team captain in 2008. He came the 11th Griz to reach the 2,000-yard receiving mark in a career as he finished his playing career at Montana with 148 receptions for 2,116 yards and 15 touchdowns.

After earning his bachelor's degree in human biology, Ferriter spent the 2009 season coaching receivers at his alma mater, Helena High School.
