Louis Wilson enters his eighth year as an assistant coach with Idaho State University, bringing to the Bengal bench many years of high-caliber coaching and playing experience. Wilson works with ISU's guards, and he coordinates all aspects of ISU's rigorous travel needs and scheduling. Wilson also coordinates ISU's recruiting. Wilson spent the previous six seasons on the coaching staff at Southern Utah University, with staff responsibilities for defensive coordination, individual skill development, scouting, academic monitoring, and recruiting. In the 1996-97 season, Southern Utah set a new school record for fewest points allowed per game. He also played a key role in post player development. The T-Birds were two-time American West Conference champions, and in 1994 led the NCAA in three-point shooting percentage. A native of New York City, Wilson joined Southern Utah in 1992 as a restricted earnings coach. He arrived in Cedar City after serving as an assistant to Alaska prep coaching legend, Chuck White, at Anchorage's East High School. While at East, Wilson coached several former and current Division I players, including former Cleveland Cavalier Trajan Langdon. The Thunderbirds were two-time state champions and 81-22 overall during Wilson's four-year tenure, including a West Region national ranking of third in 1992. His collegiate playing experience includes stops at Missouri's Trenton Junior College and William Jewell College in Kansas City. At Trenton, Wilson played point guard and served one term as the school's student body president. Trenton was 41-19 in Wilson's two years, and Wilson was team captain as a sophomore, and Most Inspirational Player as a freshman. At William Jewell, Wilson paced the team to a 34-2 record and a trip to the NAIA quarterfinals as a senior. WJC was 61-7 in Wilson's two-year stay. He graduated from WJC with a degree in public relations in 1988 before returning to Alaska where he worked in sales for Anchorage's NBC affiliate. Wilson is also the founder of the Alaska Basketball Development Program (ABDP), which has grown to become the state's largest skill development program; It's camps and tournaments involve more than 5,000 youths annually. Wilson graduated from East High School, where he was an all-state pick and team captain as a senior. East won two state championships, and Wilson was also the team's Most Inspirational Player three times. Wilson and his wife Andrea have two sons Jacques, 18, and Kaden, 9.
