Steve Deming

  • Title
    Assistant Coach
Steve Deming enters his fifth year as an assistant coach for Idaho State. An active member of ISU's track and field program for the past four years as a volunteer assistant coach, Deming has seen ISU's pole-vaulters reach new heights.

Deming set ISU's indoor and outdoor pole vault records in 1998, though both have been broken in recent years. His outdoor record stood until 2001 when it was broke by Paul Deming. His indoor record stood for five years and was also the Big Sky Conference's record holder until Paul Litchfield broke it just last year. Deming was the NJCAA national champion in the pole vault in 1992 and 1994 at Rick's College. He also finished ninth indoors and outdoors in the pole vault at the U.S. Championships in 2002. He followed up that performance with another ninth place finish indoors and 10th outdoors in 2003.

Deming earned a degree in biology from ISU in 1999 and received his Master's degree in athletic administration from ISU in 2001. Deming also earned a Master's degree in health education from ISU in 2003 and is now attending dental school.

Deming and his wife, Kelly, have two children, four-year old Jacob and one-year old Jessica.
