Gavin Petersen

Gavin Petersen begins his fourth season at Idaho State, but second as an associate head coach. Petersen oversees the ISU post players and handles the recruiting coordination, scouting, travel, and day-to-day aspects of the team. One of Petersen's post players, Natalie Doma, received Big Sky Freshman of the Year honors in 2005 and was named to the Big Sky All-Conference first team last season. Prior to ISU, Petersen served as the assistant women's basketball coach at the University of Hawai'i for two seasons (2002-2004) under head coach Vince Goo. In his first season, he helped the Wahine advance to the 2003 Women's National Invitation Tournament. At Hawai'i, Petersen was in charge of the post players, handled video exchange, and was in charge of running summer camp. He also spent more than three seasons as Hawai'i's team manager prior to being promoted to assistant coach. Petersen is a 1999 graduate of Hawai'i Pacific University, where he received a B.A. in justice administration. Prior to joining UH, Petersen served as team manager for the HPU men's basketball squad for four seasons and was part of the Sea Warrior squad that was ranked as high as second in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Petersen is currently working on a master's degree at UH in athletic performance. Petersen is a native of Hawai'i, and graduated from University High School in 1995, where he was a two-sport athlete, lettering in basketball and football.
