Tony Giannotti (Gee-uh-knot-tea) begins his second season as an assistant coach with the women's basketball program. He works primarily with the team's guards.
In the 2011-12 season, Giannotti helped lead the Bengals to a Big Sky regular season-title as well as a Big Sky Tournament Championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament where the Bengals faced the University of Miami (FL).
In his first season, Giannotti coached ISU guard players Chelsea Pickering and Kaela Oakes garnered all-conference first team honors while Lindsey Reed was named to the all-tournament team.
Giannotti came to ISU after two seasons at New Mexico State. In his final season there, he helped the Aggies post a 14-18 overall record. During the 2009-10 campaign, Giannotti helped lead New Mexico State to their first postseason appearance for the first time since 1994 when the school accepted a bid to the 2010 Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) in a first-round game at Arizona State.
He cultivated forward Crystal Boyd who earned All-Western Athletic Conference Second Team honors and recorded a team-high eight double-doubles during the 2009-10 season. She led the team in points (15.3 ppg), rebounds (7.5 rpg), steals (72), blocks (51) and field goals made (184). She finished third in the Western Athletic Conference with 7.5 rebounds per game.
Prior to New Mexico State, Giannotti served as a coach for a year at Cape Coral High School in Florida. From 2006-08, he was an assistant coach at St. Mary's College in Calif. In his two seasons at St. Mary's the program compiled a 30-31 record.
His recruits made a huge impact on the Gaels program with three different players who earned all-conference honors including Louella Tomlinson who led the nation for two straight seasons from 2009-11 in triple doubles and led the nation in blocked shots with 4.7 per game during the 2010-11 season.
From 2003-06 he served as an assistant coach for the women's program at Southern Utah after being an assistant coach for the 2001-02 season for the men's program. The Thunderbirds owned a 40-44 record while he was on the coaching staff.
Giannotti received his bachelor's degree from Southern Utah in physical education in 2000, specializing in coaching and athletic training. He and his wife, Suzette, were married in December of 2009 in Fort Myers, Fla.
