FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Idaho State dropped a 7-0 contest with Northern Arizona on Monday afternoon at the Flagstaff Athletic Club East. Idaho State fell to 1-10 overall and 0-3 in Big Sky contests while Northern Arizona improved to 4-9 overall and 2-0 in league play.
The match was scheduled to be played outdoors in Glendale at the Paseo Racquet Club but was moved back to the indoor facility in Flagstaff due to rain. The match began with singles play to ensure completion.
Danel Barrenechea was overcome 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 1 position to Hugo Ramadier while
Dakota Pate fell 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 2 position to Patrick Schimmelbauer. Sophomore
Nate Gross started off strong but lost steam in a 6-4, 6-1 contest against Robin Pezzutto at the No. 3 position.
Diego Cavalcanti fell 6-1, 6-3 to David Flodberg at the No. 4 position while
Dan Buckingham was overcome 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 5 spot by Josh Brown.
Colton Pate made a comeback but fell short 6-1, 7-5 against Ben Lantz at the No. 6 spot.
In doubles, senior Barrenechea and
Rodrigo Azevedo battled in a tiebreak before falling 9-8 (19-17) to Flodberg and Pezzuto at the No. 2 spot.
ISU's next match is against Western New Mexico at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23 at the Bally's Hotel in Las Vegas.
