POCATELLO, Idaho –
Idaho State (3-15, 0-7 BSC) fell 6-1 to Weber State (5-11, 4-2 BSC) in the Bengals final home match of the season at Reed Gym Tuesday afternoon. Sophomore Nate Gross captured the lone victory for the Bengals improving his singles record to 12-6 for the season.

In doubles, Idaho State won the No. 2 doubles match but fell at No. 1 and 3 to start the match down 0-1. Danel Barrenechea, ISU's only senior, captured the lone doubles victory for the Bengals with partner Dan Buckingham. Buckingham held his serve to win the match 8-6 over Landon Barlow and Dave Hintze.

Colton Pate and Gross were tied at 5-5 with Ciao Poitena and Peter Ramstromer Pello at the No. 3 doubles, but the Bengals were unable to break the Wildcats and fell 8-6.

Gross was the first singles match off the court easily defeating Poitena 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 3 position improving his record at the spot to 3-2. He also improved upon his victory over the Wildcat as Gross overtook Poitena 6-3, 6-4 in their first meeting of the season.

Gross took the first three games in each set before the Wildcat could get on the scoreboard. Gross' win marks his second straight singles victory. He has won five of his last six matches. His 12-6 record is the fourth best in the Big Sky Conference and ties for the second best single season record at Idaho State since 2005.

“Nate puts in the time and effort in practice and on the court. He's a fighter and he gives his all in every match,” said Head Coach Bobby Goeltz.

Barrenechea, in his last match at Reed Gym, fell 6-0, 6-4 to Simon Unger at the No. 1 spot while junior Dakota Pate fell 6-2, 6-2 to Ramstromer Pello at the No. 4 position. Freshman Diego Cavalcanti could not break Barlow and when Barlow broke Cavalcanti for the first time in the match he jumped out ahead 5-3. Barlow closed out the match 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 2 spot.

Buckingham was overpowered by Hintze falling 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 5 spot while Colton Pate held a 2-1 lead in the first set before falling 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 6 spot.

The Bengals play their final match of the season on Saturday, April 16 at Northern Colorado. The dual match begins at 1 p.m.
