SERIES INFO AND LAST MEETING WITH BRIGHAM YOUNG
Brigham Young leads the series 6-2-0.  The Bengals' first victory over BYU was in 2002 in a 2-0 victory at South Stadium.  Idaho State's last victory over the Cougars was in the first ever hosting of Brigham Young at Davis Field on Aug. 27, 2004 in a 3-1 decision.  In the last victory over the Cougars, BYU unleashed 13 shots to ISU's nine.  However, the Bengals had Shannon Boyle in goal who recorded six saves.  The first half ended with the team's tied at zero.  In the second period, the Bengals jumped to a quick 2-0 start with Ashlee Maughan scoring in the first 3:25 assisted by Hollie Christensen.  ISU went on to score ten minutes after their first goal when Jessie Bobert buried the ball on an assist from Maughan.  BYU retaliated just 20 seconds later with a goal by Annie Zwahlen assisted by Jamie Rendich which set the record for fastest consecutive goals by ISU and an opponent.  The Bengals pulled even farther out of reach for the Cougars when ISU's Sarah Hobdey scored the final goal of the game at the 64:51 mark  which was assisted by Jennifer Loo and Natalie Graham.

ABOUT BRIGHAM YOUNG
The Cougars have hit every category possible with a 1-1-1 record to begin the season.  BYU posted a 2-2 tie at Washington to open the season, then defeated Utah soundly at home in a 4-0 decision.  Brigham Young comes off a 1-0 loss to Miami at its South Stadium.  Brigham Young is ranked No. 21 in the nation by topdrawersoccer.com.  No player has stood out as the top Cougar because all six of BYU's goals were scored by six different players.  However, Auna Doria leads her teammates who have scored a goal by posting eight shots for the season.  BYU's top keeper is McKinzie Olson who has posted one shut-out and recorded four saves.  Olson has allowed three goals this season.

BENGALS LEAD CONFERENCE IN EIGHT CATEGORIES
ISU leads the Big Sky Conference with a 3-0 undefeated start to the season.  The Bengals are leading the Big Sky in five categories as a team (shots with 58, goals with eight, assists with nine, points with 25 and assists per game with 3.0) and four categories as an individual (goals with three, points per game with 2.0 and goals per game with 1.00 from Amanda Ellsworth and assists with two from both Allyson Stainbrook and Ashley Jones.

ISU CAPTURES REDEMPTION AGAINST WOLF PACK
Idaho State felt some added pressure before playing the Wolf Pack on Friday.  Last season, the Bengals opened the year with a 5-2-1 record before facing off against Nevada at the Wolf Pack Invitational.  ISU went on to post a 2-0 loss against the Wolf Pack beginning an eight game non-winning streak where ISU was 0-7-1 before defeating Sacramento State at Davis Field.  After the Nevada game ISU went 1-9-1 to end the season.  This season Nevada scored their first goal against ISU 13:08 into the contest but ISU would not be silenced fighting back for a 2-1 double-overtime victory shaking off any bad pressure from last season.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER STAND-OUT: PINGREE
Junior midfielder Anna Pingree scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Nevada off a corner kick with just 2:39 remaining.  Defender Lia Margolis put up the sixth corner kick of the day for the Bengals that sailed to the middle of the box.  Midfielder Laura Benson headed the ball down to the bottom left corner where Pingree was able to tap the ball in past the keeper.  Pingree had three shots, all on goal, in her 63 minutes on the field.  Pingree's game-winning goal was the first goal of her career.

PINGREE PUTS TOGETHER CAREER BEST WEEK

In one week Anna Pingree scored her first career goal, game winner and made her first assist.  On Tuesday, in ISU's 4-1 victory over Northwest Nazarene, Pingree assisted on Idaho State's first goal of the game 3:41 into the contest then on Friday she scored the game-winning goal off a corner kick with just 2:39 remaining against Nevada during a 2-1 double-overtime contest.  Both matches were played at Davis Field.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER STAND-OUT: HUTCHINGS-MALONEY
Sophomore Carly Hutchings-Maloney defended Idaho State against 13 shots with five on goal against Nevada.  She had four saves and allowed one goal, her first of the season, off a deep chip shot that grazed in under the crossbar.  Hutchings-Maloney withstood five shots in the first period and seven in the second period as Nevada was trying to close out it's 1-0 lead over ISU with two minutes remaining in regulation; she did not buckle.

BENGAL BACK LINE MAKES KEEPER'S JOB EASIER

Idaho State's defensive backline has helped make the ISU keeper's job easier by minimizing shots by opponents.  Idaho State has out-shot its opponents 58-to-32 including holding Northwest Nazarene to just two in ISU's home opener.  Idaho State's closest contest was a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Nevada that kept the Bengals on their toes all contest keeping ISU's strongest defenders on the pitch for all 107 minutes: Megan Stainbrook, Mikaela Carrillo, Morgan Olson and Lia Margolis.  ISU's only returning keeper Carly Hutchings-Maloney also played in goal the whole game.  She is one of four keepers in the Big Sky to collect a shut-out this season with ISU's 2-0 victory over Souther Utah.

BENGALS ON VERGE OF FOUR WIN START
The last time Idaho State opened the season with three victories was twice, in 2002 and 2003 under Gordon Anderson when the Bengals captured their second and third straight Big Sky Conference Tournament Title.  The only time the Bengals have ever opened a season with four victories was in 2004 under Mark Salisbury.

SMALLS NAMED FIRST-EVER BENGAL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Idaho State University awarded its first-ever Bengal Athlete of the Week honor to senior defender Megan Stainbrook, aka Smalls, on Monday morning.  Stainbrook headed in the game-tying goal with 1:50 remaining in regulation to allow Idaho State to defeat Nevada 2-1 in double-overtime. Stainbrook was assisted by her sister Allyson Stainbrook who served up the corner kick in the final minutes.  ISU had allowed a Nevada goal 13:08 into the contest but never gave up. Stainbrook, a defender, was moved to the midfield position at halftime to get closer to the goal for the opportunity to score. She played all 107 minutes of the double-overtime contest recording two shots with one on goal.

BENGALS HOT AT DAVIS FIELD

Over the last two season the Bengals have posted a 10-3-2 home record (.733)  Under Head Coach Allison Gibson the Bengals own a 24-8-7 (.705) at Davis Field.  The all-time home record at Davis Field is 59-24-14 (.680).

SPEAKING OF HOT...
Due to the extreme heat of 97 degrees during ISU's contest against Nevada at Davis Field both teams agreed to a two-minute water break between the 22-25 minute of the first and second period called by the center official.  Only a break was taken during the first period.  Pocatello is projected to be 93 degrees when the Bengals play Brigham Young.

JONES ASSISTS ARE GAME WINNING
Junior midfielder Ashley Jones leads the Bengals with two assists.  What is really spectacular is that both of her assists have been on the game-winning goals against Southern Utah and Northwest Nazarene.

LUCKY 13 - BENGALS TIE CORNER KICK SCHOOL RECORD
ISU tied the school record for corner kicks for the third time  in program history with 13 against Northwest Nazarene; notching seven in the second period alone. The Bengals first set the record in 2000 against Carroll College and repeated the performance in 2009 against Utah Valley. All three 13-corner kick games were played at Davis Field.  Northwest Nazarene did not have a corner kick in the competition.

LOOKING AHEAD...

Idaho State will have one day of practice before traveling to Moscow on Thursday for the 14th annual Governor's Cup. The Bengals play tournament host Idaho on Friday, Sept. 2 at 4:30 p.m. then Boise State on Sunday, Sept. 4 at 11 a.m.

BENGALS LEAD GOVERNOR'S CUP CHAMPIONS
The Bengals lead the Gem State schools with five Governor's Cup championships: 1999, 2000, 2003, 2006, and 2007. ISU has had the honor six times counting the three-way tie in 2004. ISU is also the only school to own a two-game winning streak twice.
