POCATELLO, Idaho -
Freshman midfielder Allyssa Kenney scored her second left footed goal of the season in ISU's 5-1 loss to Utah Valley in the final non-conference game of the season.  Kenney scored her goal 31:40 into the game and was assisted by freshman defender Taylor McBride

Kenney's first left footed goal was against Brigham Young when she also scored ISU's lone goal in the 3-1 fall to No. 21 Brigham Young.

Utah Valley improved to 4-6 while Idaho State fell to 3-6-1 for the season.  Utah Valley out-shot the Bengals 25-to-16 and had 18 on goal shots to ISU's five.

With sophomore defender Lia Margolis still on the sidelines due to injury the Bengals defensive line was already weakened.  Then add the only 55 minutes of play from top defender Morgan Olson and 49 minutes from Mikaela Carrillo due to injuries on the field, ISU's backline was short key players in this match-up.

Rachel Strawn, a junior forward, continued to show accuracy as all three of her shots were on goal.  In the last four games Strawn has put 10 of her 11 shots on goal.

The Bengals gave up an early goal when Natalie Young capitalized on a deep ball sent up by Kelsey Cook 1:42 into the contest.  Young headed the ball to the back of the net for her first goal of the game.  Young repeated her self with a chip shot over ISU keeper Carly Hutchings-Maloney on a run out two yards from Hutchings-Maloney.  Young's second goal of the game was her fourth of the season.

Kenney put the Bengals back within striking distance as ISU trailed 2-1 into the break.  Utah Valley out-shot the Bengals 16-to-5 in the first period where Hutchings-Maloney recorded 10 saves.

In the second period the Wolverines scored three goals, two by Kaitlyn Thomas and the final by Regan Clifford.  Thomas' first goal was a 20 yard high ball that Hutchings-Maloney was able to punch at in the air.  The velocity was too much and hung in the air to go to the back of the net at the 50:36 mark.

Thomas' second goal was off a throw-in and pass by teammates Natalie Young and Regan Clifford where Thomas finished the set-up 10 yards out over the keeper's head at the 62:59 mark.

Clifford earned her own goal at the 63:58 mark where Hutchings-Maloney blocked the first deep shot attempt.  Clifford collected the ball again to knock it past the keeper five yards out.  Clifford had a game-high five shots with three on goal.

Hutchings-Maloney had 10 saves in the game.  Freshman keeper Lexi Smith got her first action on the pitch against Utah Valley.  She finished out the game, the final 25:22 and recorded one save.  ISU had 13 saves as a team.

The Bengals could not finish to the back of the net after putting on a stronger effort in the second period.  Idaho State out-shot Utah Valley 11-to-9 in the second period.

The Bengals open conference play at home against Weber State on Sept. 30 at 4 p.m. at Davis Field.
