Record 17 Bengals Named to All-Academic Team

The only other team to have 17 student-athletes named to the all-academic team was the 1995 Bengal football team.

POCATELLO, Idaho-  The academic success continues for the Idaho State football team. After coming off a fall semester where the team had a 3.04 GPA the team was rewarded with a record 17 student-athletes being named to the Big Sky All-Academic Team for football. The 17 named to the team ties the 1995 team for the most Bengal football players named to the conference academic team since the award started in 1978.

Idaho State had 13 named to the all-academic team last year.

As part of the academic performance in the fall semester the team had an APR score of 985 in the fall and 51 out of 81 student-athletes had a 3.0 GPA or better with two earning a 4.0.

“This is an ongoing process that shadows the excellence the program is striving for,” Idaho State coach Mike Kramer said. “We want academic achievement to be a characteristic of who we are. Ultimately academic performance is an ultimatum of our character. It is disappointing that we have been bedeviled by a severe disconnect in our senior class. We will continue to emphasize the positive and our new levels of attainment.”
