Bengal Soccer Faces Conference Leaders on the Road this Week

Idaho State faces conference-leading Portland State Friday, Oct. 12

BENGAL OVERVIEW

Idaho State (7-5-1) takes on the top two Big Sky teams this weekend on the road. The Bengals first face conference-leading Portland State (4-1-1) Friday, Oct. 12 at 4 p.m. at Hillsboro Stadium. Idaho State then faces second-place Sacramento State (3-1-2) Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m. at Hornet Field in Sacramento, Calif.

ABOUT IDAHO STATE
The Bengals are 7-5-1 on the season and are led by senior forward Rachel Strawn who has netted 10 goals this season. The 5-2 Roy, Utah native also leads ISU in points (21), shots (42), shots on goal (23) and game-winning goals (5). Forward Amanda Ellsworth leads the assist effort with five in her sophmore campaign. At goal, freshman Sheridan Hapsic has 27 saves and 12 goals allowed. ISU has scored 22 goals this season and recorded 184 total shots.

Idaho State leads the conference in points, averaging 4.69 per game. The squad also leads in total goals (22), goals per game (1.69), assists (17) and assists per game (1.31). Strawn leads the conference indiviudally in points, points per game, goals, goals per game and game-winning goals. She is third in the conference in shots. Senior midfielder Anna Pingree and sophomore forward Amanda Ellsworth are tied for third in the conference in goals (3). Ellsworth is leading the conference in assists (5). Nationally, ISU is ranked No. 100 in scoring offense.

LAST WEEK IN BENGAL SOCCER
Last week, Idaho State dropped a 1-0 decision to conference rival Weber State in Ogden. The Bengals recorded nine shots with seven on goal in the contest while the Wildcats had 10 shots with just three on goal. Weber State's goal came in the 75th minute of competition on a through ball off a free kick from midfield.

STRAWN AMONG NATION'S BEST
Not only is senior forward Rachel Strawn leading the team and the conference, she is also putting herself among some of the top players nationally at the DI level. Strawn is currently fourth in the country at the DI level in game-winning goals, 19th in total goals, 19th in goals per game, 39th in total points and 31st in points per game.

Strawn continues to climb the ISU record lists. With 10 goals this season, she is one goal away from tying the ISU single-season record for goals made and is six away from tying the very same Big Sky record. Strawn is now third in ISU single-season points (21).

Career-wise, Strawn is now second all-time in ISU history for career points (47), goals (16), game-winning goals (9) and shots on goal (69). She is fifth in shots with 126 total.

PINGREE LEADS BENGALS AT THE MIDFIELD
Anna Pingree continues to be a strong presence for ISU in the midfield. She scored her fourth goal of the season in the 55th minute against UVU, putting ISU up 1-0. The goal also marked the second time this season that Pingree has been the first player to put ISU on the board this season.

Pingree scored three goals at the Governor's Cup, earning co-Big Sky Player of the Week honors. Pingree helped ISU shutout Idaho 2-0 with a volley on a corner kick for the goal to put the Bengals up 2-0. The Bengals improved to 4-0-0 after the win over Idaho, the first time ISU has started at 4-0 since the 2004 season. Pingree scored two goals against Boise State in a 3-2 overtime loss. She tied the game 1-1 in the 58th minute and scored again in the 69th minute to put ISU up 2-1. Pingree has four goals on the season and two assists for a total of 10 points.

ELLSWORTH SCORES ISU'S FASTEST GOAL
In ISU's 2-1 loss to Eastern Washington, sophomore forward Amanda Ellsworth helped ISU jump to a very early lead with a goal in the 22nd second of the game. The goal is ISU's fastest goal from the start of the game. Stacey Peterson previously held the record, scoring 36 seconds into the game against Youngstown State in 2002.

ABOUT PORTLAND STATE
Portland State leads the conference with a 4-1-1 record. The Vikings are 3-2-1 at home this season and are 6-6-2 overall. PSU is currently on a five-game unbeaten streak with four wins and a tie. The last loss the team sufferered was a 1-0 decision at Northern Colorado on Sept. 21. Daniela Solis leads the Vikings with three goals, six points, 22 shots, 12 shots on goal and two game-winning goals. Amanda Dutra is tied for first in the conference with a team-high five assists. Goalie Lainey Hulsizer sports a .84 goal allowed average and has notched 53 saves and four shut outs with just 12 goals allowed this season. Portland State leads the conference with the fewest goals allowed (12) and the best goal allowed average (.86).

SERIES INFO AND LAST MEETING WITH THE VIKINGS
The series between the programs is tied at 7-7-1. Portland State has won six straight match-ups against the Bengals including the last contest in a 1-0 decision in Pocatello on Oct. 23, 2011. ISU last defeated Portland State 2-1 in Pocatello on Oct. 23, 2004. The last time ISU defeated Portland State in Portland was Oct. 24, 2003 in a 1-0 final.

ABOUT SACRAMENTO STATE
Sacramento State is second in the conference with a 3-1-2 record. The Hornets are 3-2-2 at home and 5-5-4 overall this season. SAC is currently on a four-game unbeaten streak with two wins and two ties. Sacramento State is leading the conference in shots, averaging 15.64 per game. The team is also second in points per game (3.36), goals per game (1.21) and shut outs per game (.43). Victoria Ramirez leads the Vikings with four goals, three assists, 11 points and two game-winning goals. Elece McBride leads SAC and is second in the conference in shots with 44. She also leads the Hornets with 24 shots on goal. Goalkeeper Shelby Tomasello has tallied five shut outs this season for a conference leading, 5.0 per game. She has notched 58 saves and allowed 11 goals in 991:15 minutes of action.

SERIES INFO AND LAST MEETING WITH THE HORNETS
ISU leads the series 9-3-3 and the Bengals are 4-2-1 at Sacramento State. The Bengals have won the last two meetings with the Hornets including the last contest on Oct. 20, 2011 when Idaho State defeated SAC 3-2 in Sacramento, Calif.
