CHENEY, Wash – Sophomore Amanda Ellsworth scored her third goal of the season Sunday afternoon in ISU's 2-1 loss to Eastern Washington. The Bengals fell to 5-4-1 overall and 0-1-1 in conference action while the Eagles advance to 4-5-1 overall and 1-1 in Big Sky play.

Ellsworth scored her goal than one minute into competition. Just 22 seconds into the contest, Ellsworth netted an unassisted goal off an EWU turnover. The goal is the fastest goal scored in a game in ISU history. The previous fastest goal was scored by Stacey Peterson against Youngstown State in 2002. Peterson scored the goal in 36 seconds.

“We came out strong and scored quickly off a turnover off of the pressure we had planned on using in our game plan,” ISU Head Coach Allison Gibson said. “We maintained what we needed to do throughout the entire game; we just keep getting caught on silly mistakes. EWU made mistakes too today and we just couldn't capitalize on them.”

Eastern Washington scored in the 25th minute to tie the score and both teams would head into the locker room at the half with the score tied 1-1. The Eagles scored again in the second half, making the score 2-1 EWU.

Idaho State recorded four shots on goal during the contest with Ellsworth, Allyson Stainbrook, Madeline Gochnour and Rachel Strawn each recording one.

The Bengals outshot Eastern Washington 14-7 and posted 10 shots in the second half alone. The Bengals had three corner kicks to EWU's one.

ISU goalkeeper Maria Dela Cruz recorded one save and two goals allowed in 90 minutes of play while EWU goalie Nathalie Schwery had two saves and one goal allowed.

The contest against Eastern Washington brings an end to ISU's seven-game road stretch. The Bengals return to Pocatello next week to take on Southern Utah Friday, Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. and Northern Arizona Sunday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m.

“These kids have worked their butts off,” Gibson said. “They have played well and played strong all season long. I told them to keep the faith. We are finally getting to go home after a month on the road. I am so proud for what they have done after being on the road for so long. This schedule has been very challenging and it's not an excuse but a reality. We are still going hard and are still in a good position. It was a rough start to conference play but if there's one thing this team has shown is how well it responds to adversity.”
