Bengals fall short of the Big Sky Tournament with a 2-0 loss to Northern Colorado

Box Score GREELEY, Colo. – The Idaho State Bengal soccer season came to a close Sunday with a 2-0 road loss to Northern Colorado that left the Bengals one spot out of the top four Big Sky teams that play in the conference tournament.

The Bears outshot the Bengals 20-6 but five of Idaho State's shots were on goal to seven of Northern Colorado's.

NC's Juliana Grover got the scoring going in the 27th minute off of an assist by Alexys Tamayo and Chandler Guetz.

Early in the second half of the match the Bears nearly took a 2-0 lead when a UNC player was fouled in the box which led to a penalty kick for Essence Ortiz-Laneir. Sheridan Hapsic made the save to preserve hope for the Bengals.

That hope was finally dashed in the 83rd minute when Ambree Bellin found Morgan Rynearson for the second goal of the match.

Whitney Peterson had half of the Idaho State's shots. Hapsic had five saves for ISU.

The Bengals  finish the season with a 7-8-2 record overall and a 4-3-2 record conference. Idaho State misses the Big Sky tournament just one year after hosting the tournament and claiming the title on penalty kicks.
