Women's Basketball Opens Slate with Three Home Games

A tough non-conference schedule includes games at Oklahoma State and Iowa

The Bengals begin the home conference schedule Jan. 9.

2013-14 Schedule

POCATELLO, Idaho - The Idaho State women's basketball team opens the 2013-14 season with three home games before taking the road for nearly two months on a trip that will feature games at Oklahoma State and Iowa.

The Bengals open the season with an exhibition game against The University of Mary (Nov. 2), Black Hills State (Nov. 8) and Carroll College (Nov. 11).

Head Coach Seton Sobolewski is excited to give ISU fans a chance to get to see the team in action early on.

"We are excited to start the season at home," Sobolewski said. "We have loyal fans and we are thrilled to give them a great opportunity to see some of our new Bengals right out of the gate."

The Bengals then head on the road for seven non-conference games, including matchups with Oklahoma State and Iowa.

The 2012-13 Cowgirls lost to Duke in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament after a 22-11 record. Iowa went 21-13 last season.

"Like in years past, we will have a tough non-conference schedule with a lot of road games," Sobolewski said. "We continue to have teams from big conferences like the Big 12 and Big 10, which will make us better going into Big Sky play. We are excited about the challenge this presents."

After seven straight non-conference games on the road, the Bengals will start Big Sky play with road games at Portland State and Eastern Washington.

Idaho State plays its first home game in 59 days when they play North Dakota, Jan. 9, at Reed Gym. The North Dakota game will be the first of ten home conference games.
The Bengals host Northern Colorado on Jan. 11, Weber State Jan. 20, Sacramento State Jan. 30, Northern Arizona Feb. 1, Southern Utah Fab. 14, Montana State Feb. 20, Montana Fab. 22, Eastern Washington March, 6 and Portland State March, 8.
The alignment of the conference schedule doesn't make the Big Sky gauntlet any easier. The Bengals play four games in a week's time, ending with the tough Montana-Montana State road swing in late January.

"The Big Sky continues to be a tough women's basketball conference," Sobolewski said. "The conference is loaded with talented players, good teams, and coaches that know each other well. To compete we will need to be ready to go every night."

The end goal of the Big Sky schedule will be the conference tournament slated for March 13-15 and hosted by the regular season champion.
