POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women's tennis team defeated Southern Utah 4-2 Saturday afternoon at the Reed Gym tennis courts.
Idaho State started with a 2-0 sweep in the doubles point. Svenja tegtmeier and
Wiebke Boeckmann defeated Nastia Vasileva and Madeline Skara 8-5 at No. 2 and
Madelyn Weltzin and
Kasey Bacon defeated Jane Marushko and Sarah Lundin 8-2 at No. 3.
At No. 1 singles
Marian Tangarife defeated Alex Ivanova 6-2, 6-2 to give Idaho State a 2-0 lead.
Southern Utah then won two straight matches to tie the score at 2-2. At No. 3 Marushko defeated Tegtmeier 6-2, 6-4 and at No. 2 Veronika Rogova defeated Bacon 5-7, 6-0, 6-1.
At No. 4 Weltzin defeated Vasileva 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 to give Idaho State a 3-2 lead and Theaus clinched the victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6. The No. 5 match was abandoned after the match was clinched.
Idaho State is 5-11 on the season and 2-4 in Big Sky play. ISU plays host to Northern Arizona Sunday at 9 a.m.
