Ellsworth's OT Goal Lifts Bengals to 3-2 Win over Wyoming

Box Score
POCATELLO, IdahoAmanda Ellsworth has scored 26 goals in her career, more than any player in Idaho State history, but none may have been sweeter than the one she scored to give her team a 3-2 overtime win over Wyoming Friday evening at Davis Field.

In the 98th minute of a 2-2 tie she found herself with the ball in space to the left of the goal. She drove past one defender and sent a shot towards the goal. The ball was deflected and bounced wildly towards the end line. She quickly gathered the ball and sent itover the goalkeeper's head for her first game-winning goal of the season.

"I don't even don't know what to say," Head Coach Allison Gibson said. "I kept looking at my bench because she was so tired, but Amanda with almost nothing left is still the kid I want out there. I know she is going to do it. I had to fight myself from pulling her late in the game."

The goal was just part of a great game by Ellsworth that included an assist on a goal by Maria Sanchez in the 54th minute when the Bengals trailed 1-0.

"If you look at any combination of players that are great they have a great connection," Gibson said. "Maria and Amanda have built wonderful chemistry. They really want each other to succeed."

The first half ended in a 0-0 tie with only three shots between the two teams. Wyoming finally got on the board in the 49th minute when a player was fouled in the box. Kasey Curtis took the penalty kick for Wyoming. ISU goalkeeper Sheridan Hapsic dove left but the ball went right to give Wyoming the 1-0 lead.

After Sanchez' goal in the 54th minute, the Bengals took the lead on a goal from another freshman.

Ellsworth shot from just outside the five yard box but the ball bounced back to Samantha Rodriquez. She immediately returned the ball over the goalkeeper's hands for 2-1 ISU lead.
Wyoming equalized in the 77th minute when a Cowgirl free kick entered the box and bounced before Kayla Cryer got a head on the ball and sent it into the corner of the net.

Despite several great scoring opportunities for both teams, regulation ended without a winner.

In the overtime period Idaho State outshot Wyoming 3-2. Overall the Bengals topped the Cowgirls 15-11 in shots and 7-4 in shots on goal.

The game was the only one of the week for ISU. The Bengals travel to play Utah State next Friday at 4 p.m. before meeting Boise State in Boise at 12 p.m. on Sept. 7.
