Soccer Hangs Tough at Nationally Ranked SDSU

Box Score

SAN DIEGO, California – The Idaho State soccer team concluded their non-conference schedule with a 3-0 loss at No. 20 San Diego State.  They head into Big Sky Conference play with a 3-4 record.

Despite being outshot, the Bengals battled the nationally ranked Aztecs to a scoreless draw at halftime.

"We really fought hard for that," Head Coach Allison Gibson said. "It was fun to watch them. I told them at the end of the game that we're getting out of here with that first half under our belts because that's what you're capable of doing.  It wasn't that we kept them 0-0, it was that we probably had the better of the opportunities."

After the break the home squad struck early with a goal from Katie Perry.  SDSU would add two late tallies, one on a penalty kick for the final three goal advantage.

Katherine Roberts led the Bengals with four shots while Amanda Ellsworth had two.

Keeper Sheridan Hapsic totaled a season high seven saves.

"Sheridan played out of her mind," Gibson said. "She kept us in the game."

The Bengals begin conference play with a pair of road games.  They will face Eastern Washington Friday afternoon in Cheney before battling Montana, Sunday in Missoula.

"I like the fact that we are sitting 3-4 against a schedule with really tough games," Gibson said. "I like the way we've fought, I like the way we've come from behind, I like what we did today. I think we've seen a lot of everything and seen ourselves in just about every situation. Starting next week we've got to put all of the pieces together and make a run at it."
