Live VideoPOCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State soccer team is heading out for a single-match road swing as it faces Portland State Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. MST in Hillsboro, Ore. Following their match at Portland State, the Bengals head back home and host Sacramento State at Davis Field at 12 p.m. Sunday morning.
ABOUT PORTLAND STATEPortland State is 3-9-0 overall, including a 1-3 mark in conference play. The Vikings picked up their first conference win against Southern Utah at home on Sept. 25.
PSU returns 13 letter winners and four starters from last year's squad that finished wiht a 9-6-4 overall record and a 6-2-2 mark in the Big Sky, good for second place. Senior midfielder Cori Bianchini and junior midfielder Aurora Bodenhamer lead the Vikings with two goals apiece.
Portland State averages 0.42 goals per game with a .426 shots on goal percentage. The Vikings average 10.2 shots per game with a .041 shot percentage.
PSU is coached by Head Coach Laura Schott who is in her eighth year with the Vikings and carries a 65-61-21 overall record.
ABOUT SACRAMENTO STATESacramento State is 4-8 overall this season including a 2-2 mark in conference play. The Hornets have picked up wins against both Northern Arizona and Southern Utah at home.
Sac State returns 18 letter winners and eight starters from last year's squad that finished ninth in the Big Sky with a 4-6-0 conference mark and a 9-10 overall record. Sophomore forward Kayla Collins leads the Hornets this season with four goals and two assists.
CSUS averages 1.3 goals per game with a .481 shots on goal percentage. The Hornets average 13.2 shots per game with a .095 shot percentage.
Sacramento State is coached by Head Coach Randy Dedini who is in his ninth season and carries a 69-72-21 overall record.
LAST MATCH: ISU SOCCER'S SECOND-HALF COMEBACK FALLS SHORT AT NORTH DAKOTAIdaho State soccer's furious second-half comeback fell short Sunday afternoon as the Bengals fell to North Dakota 3-2. ISU scored two goals in less than a minute to cut UND's lead to one, but the three-goal deficit was too large for the Bengals to overcome.
Sophomore forward
Maria Sanchez scored both goals for the Bengals, converting on a penalty kick in the 84th minute and then chipped her 12th goal of the season over UND's goalie 18 seconds later.
In the first half, both the Bengals and UND recorded seven shots on goal, but North Dakota capitalized on its opportunities and was able to score three goals in less than 10 minutes. ISU headed into halftime facing a three-goal deficit.
Head Coach
Allison Gibson made significant changes to the Bengal lineup in the second half, starting all freshmen and sophomores for the final 45 minutes. ISU outshot UND 14-11 in the second half, including 8-2 on goal and outscored UND 2-0 in the last 45 minutes.
