Softball Falls to Nevada 9-8 in Eight Innings; Takes the series 2-1

 
POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball lost 9-8 in eight innings to Nevada on Sunday afternoon in the final game of a three-game series in Reno, Nevada. The Bengals scored their eight runs on nine hits while Nevada had 13 hits.

"I thought the offense battled hard," Idaho State coach Julie Wright said. "Kacie had an incredible series offensively and Vicky was impressive as well. We just have to be a little better in the circle. We are already looking forward to getting back on the field this weekend in Kansas."

Kacie Burnett capped off an impressive weekend by going four-for-four with two RBIs, three runs scored and three stolen bases.

For the weekend the Bengal sophomore was 10-for-12 with two RBIs, seven runs scored, one double, one triple and she was a perfect seven-for-seven stealing bases.

Vicky Galasso hit her second home run of the series in the loss and Maddy Hickman was two-for-four.

Bailey Foster took the loss as she pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing three runs on three hits, two walks and three strikeouts. Sophie Slagle pitched 4.2 innings and allowed 10 hits, six runs, four walks and two strikeouts.

Idaho State fell behind 5-2 after three innings. The Bengals tied the game at five in the fifth inning thanks to an RBI single by Burnett and Galasso's two-run homer.

Idaho State took an 8-5 lead in the sixth inning with another three run inning. Hickman led off with a single up the middle and Micheala Taylor then reached base on bunt.

Gabby Lopez followed with an RBI double to left-center. Then with one out Taylor scored on a sacrifice bunt by Sarah Hayes. Burnett later singled home the third run of the inning to give ISU the three-run advantage.

The lead was short-lived as Nevada scored three runs in the bottom half of the sixth to tie the game at eight. After a scoreless seventh inning, the Wolf Pack scored the winning run with one out in the bottom of the eighth on walk off single.

Idaho State returns to the field March 13-15 for four games at the University of Kansas. The Bengals play Nebraska Omaha on March 13, Kansas City and Kansas on March 14 and St. Louis on March 15.
