Live StatsPOCATELLO, Idaho – The ISU soccer team is back at home for their second-straight Mountain West opponent as they take on the Broncos of Boise State Sunday, Sept. 6 at 1 p.m. at Davis Field. The Broncos, who face Idaho Friday afternoon, are hungry for their first win of the season after starting 0-3 this season.
LAST MATCH: ISU FALLS ON THE ROAD TO NEW MEXICO, 4-1ISU faced a season-high 33 shots, including 14 on goal, in their loss to New Mexico on Thursday afternoon in Albuquerque, N.M. The Bengals (1-4-0) struggled to control the ball for the first 15 minutes of the match as the Lobos (2-3-0) fired off four shots in the first seven minutes alone. UNM's Maddie Irwin connected off a deflection in the seventh minute to score UNM's first goal.
The Bengals weathered UNM's push throughout the rest of the first half until UNM's Korynn Blansma sent a ball across the six-yard line to Quincy Slora who finished for the Lobos second goal with 18 seconds left in the half. ISU was able to force five offside penalties on UNM in the first half, but the Lobos contered with 17 shots to the Bengals' 3.
New Mexico scored their third and fourth goals in the 67th and 78th minutes. Idaho State scored its only goal of the match in the 85th minute as freshman
Meaghan Bare knocked a strong ball from the top of the box past the Lobos for her first goal of the season.
SCOUTING BOISE STATEBoise State has lost three straight to open the 2015 season, losing at Samford 2-0, at Ole Miss 4-0 and against Washington State, 2-1. The Broncos face Idaho Friday afternoon before heading to Pocatello for Sunday's match.
The Broncos are led by freshman midfielder Michelle Reed who has recorded the Broncos' only goal this season.
Boise State returned 16 letterwinners and nine starters from last year's squad that finished sixth in the Moutain West and lost in the first round of the Mountain West Championship. The Broncos were picked to finish sixth this season in the MW.
Notable returners for Boise State include senior midfielder Brooke Heidemann who earned first team all-Mountain West honor last season, in addition to senior defender KT Clayton who ranked third on the team with four goals and nine points last season.
The Broncos are coached by Jim Thomas who is in this third year at the helm of the program. Boise State is 22-19-6 under the direction of Thomas.
