Box Score PDFSALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Idaho State men's tennis team opened its 2016 schedule at Utah Sunday afternoon, falling to the Utes 6-1 at the Eccles Tennis Center at the University of Utah.
"Overall, it was a really positive experience despite the loss," Head Coach
Mark Rodel said. "This is a brand new team. They did everything I asked of them. They competed hard, came out harder in the second sets and made the necessary adjustments against a very powerful Utah squad. I'm very proud of them."
Junior
William Edin highlighted singles play for the Bengals, forcing the match at the No. 2 singles position to three sets after battling back in the second. Utah's Egbert Weverink claimed the final set, winning the match 6-3, 4-6 and 10-5.
"William made some really good adjustments and played a very impressive match," Rodel said. "I'm most impressed with his ability to make adjustments throughout the match."
In doubles play, William and
Sebastian Edin fell to Weverink and Santiago Sierra 6-3 at the No. 1 doubles position, while
Francis Filipovich and Steadman fell 6-0 to Johan Jonhagen and David Micevski at the No. 3 position.
The Bengals are back in action Jan. 30 as they host Grand Canyon at 11 a.m. at Reed Gym.
