Photo GalleryPOCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women's tennis team earned its fourth win of the season Friday afternoon with a 6-1 win over visiting Southern Utah at Reed Gym. The Bengals swept doubles play and earned five-of-six singles wins to end a two-match losing streak.
"The girls played clean singles today," Head Coach
Gretchen Maloney said. "In doubles play, we were aggressive from the start and new moved in well."
ISU (4-7, 2-2 BSC) earned 6-3 victories at the Nos. 1, 2 and 3 doubles positions to claim the doubles point and the early 1-0 lead in the match. In singles play, ISU earned wins in the first five matches as freshman Nonie Alexandersen defeated Southern Utah's (2-14, 1-5 BSC) Emily Lemmon 6-0, 6-0, senior
Wiebke Boeckmann bested Teresa De Enrique Schmidt 6-1, 6-3, senior
Svenja Tegtmeier earned a 6-1, 6-2 match win over Evgenia Marushko, senior
Laura Theus defeated Laura Martin Lozano 6-0, 6-1 and senior
Taylor Cole earned the 6-2, 4-1 win with the retirement of Megan Bell.
At the No. 1 singles position, senior
Kasey Bacon battled SUU's Veronika Rogova for two sets before falling 7-6, 7-5.
The Bengals are back in action March 27 against Montana State at 12 p.m. at Reed Gym.
