OGDEN, Utah – The Idaho State men's tennis team dropped a close match Sunday morning, falling to league-leading Weber State 4-3 in Ogden.

"Today will prove to be a turning point for Bengal Men's Tennis," said Head Coach Mark Rodel. "Today was the first time that the team really embodied everything that we work on, both attitude and the way we approach the game to playing the game. We came up against the number one team in the Big Sky for the last three years now. We pushed them to the very brink."

Idaho State (6-11, 2-6 BSC) started off on a good note as freshman Francis Filipovich and junior Haseeb Khan defeated Landon Barlow and Hou-En Chen of Weber State (10-6, 8-0) 6-3. However, the Wildcats won the final two doubles matches to earn the doubles point.

In singles play, Idaho State battled the Wildcats in every match forcing three sets in three separate matches and tie-breakers in at least one set of five separate matches. Junior Sebastian Edin bested WSU's 6-3, 6-7, 10-5 at the No. 1 singles position, while junior Josh Goodwin and junior Bjorn Scheepbouwer also earned wins. Goodwin topped Barlow 6-7, 6-4, 10-7 at the No. 4 singles position while Scheepbouwer defeated Chen 6-3, 7-5 at the No. 5 spot.

However, splitting singles play 3-all gave the Wildcats the win as they earned the critical doubles point early in the match.

"Performances were outstanding from Sebastian [Edin], Josh [Goodwin] and Bjorn [Scheepbouwer], and everyone carried their weight today and contributed," Rodel said. "It was a stellar team effort despite the loss. I feel very confident and excited for what lies ahead for this team for the remainder of the year and for the future. It looks really bright, and I couldn't be more impressed with how the team has bought in."

Idaho State returns to the court April 16 as it travels to Greeley, Colo. to face Northern Colorado at 9 a.m.
