BOISE, Idaho – The Idaho State men's tennis team season came to a close Sunday afternoon with a 7-0 loss to Idaho in a neutral Big Sky match at the Appleton Tennis Center in Boise, Idaho.
Idaho (15-6, 9-2 BSC), which finishes the season as the second-place squad in the Big Sky Conference, proved to be too much for Idaho State (8-12, 4-6 BSC). The Bengals fell behind early as the Vandals swept doubles play; juniors
Sebastian Edin and
William Edin posted the best doubles match, battling Idaho's Artem Vasheshnikov and Jackson Varney before falling 6-4 at the No. 1 doubles position.
In singles play, the Bengals forced just one match to three sets, as
Sebastian Edin battled Odon Barta 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) at the No. 1 singles position. Each of the five other singles matches were decided in just two sets.
"Idaho was too much for us today," Head Coach
Mark Rodel said. "We close our season and have made improvements all year long. We finished eighth in conference play, which is an improvement over last year and two spots ahead of the preseason coaches poll. We are looking ahead to next season, and we are confident that we will finish in the top six in conference play and earn a spot in the conference tournament. Overall, the team exceeded my expectations and bought into our team philosophy."
Idaho State will return its entire roster for next season, which will begin with matches starting next fall.
