Game 5: Idaho State at Portland State

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State football team plays at Portland State on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 3:35 p.m. (MTN) at Providence Park in Portland, Ore.  Jerry Miller and Mark Liptak will call the action on 102.5 KMGI. Live stats, audio and video are available online at isubengals.com.

Idaho State leads the series 24-16-1. The series is tied 10-10 in Portland. ISU is 14-6-1 in Pocatello. Portland State has won five of the last six meetings. The Bengals win was 31-13 in Portland on Nov. 1, 2014. Last year the Vikings beat ISU 34-14 in Pocatello.

Portland State is 1-3 and 0-1 in Big Sky play. The Vikings have lost three straight, losing 66-35 at San Jose, 41-3 at Washington and 45-31 at SUU. The Vikings are unranked for the first time in 17 weeks. PSU is scoring 28 points a game and giving up 44.5. The Vikings average 189 on the ground, 225.2 in the air and 414.2 yards of total offense.

Bengals in The NCAA and Big Sky Rankings
- Jakori Ford ranks 18th in all-purpose yards at 143.5
- Tanner Gueller ranks 12th nationally in completions per game and third in the Big Sky at 24.25 completions a game.
- Sean Cheney ranks seventh in punting at 43.7 yards a kick and he is first in the
conference.
- Jakori Ford  ranks 17th in rushing touchdowns and third in the conference with four.
- Mario Jenkins ranks 25th in tackles for loss at 1.8 per game. That mark is second-best in the conference. He also ranks 25th in tackles and fifth in the league at 10.3

Final Notes from Last Week's Game vs. Sac. State
- Michael Dean's 91 yard touchdown run was the second longest run in ISU history. The school record is 99 by Lyle Anderson vs. Western State in 1969. His 154 rushing yards is the 35th-best single-game performance in ISU history.  Dean's 91-yard run was also the longest offensive play during the Mike Kramer era at ISU.
- Game captains were Mario Jenkins, Jakori Ford, Nikko Taylor and Trae Pilster.
- Nikko Taylor scored his first-career touchdown on an interception in the fourth quarter.
- Josh Cook had a career-high 118 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
- Anthony Ricks had his second-career interception.
- Chase Collins saw his first action of the season at offensive line.
- In four games the Bengals have five plays of 60-yards or more. Prior to Saturday's game, Jakori Ford had a 75-yard touchdown run at Oregon State and KW Williams caught a 63-yard touchdown pass vs. Simon Fraser.
- Micah Breland had a career-high six tackles.

Kicks Teams Ranked Nationally
The Bengal kick off return defense is ranked eighth nationally and second in the conference, allowing only 14.18 yards a return. The Bengal punters are ranked sixth nationally and first in the conference in net punting at 41 yards a kick. The ISU punt return defense is ranked 13th nationally and second in the conference at 1.89 yards a return.
