Soccer Travels to Southern Utah for Conference Matchup

POCATELLO, Idaho –
The Idaho State soccer team travels to Southern Utah for a 4 p.m. kickoff in Cedar City, Utah on Friday, Oct. 6 in its lone conference match this week.

BENGALS PREVIEW

· Last Time Out: The Bengals split games last weekend at home, defeating Montana 1-0 on Friday, Sept. 39 and falling to Portland State 2-1 on Sunday, Oct. 1. Against the Vikings, the game was very physical with five yellow cards and 24 total fouls. Makena Bambei netted a header in the eighth minute to start things off for the Bengals, but the Vikings scored two unanswered in the 24th and 60th minutes to earn the 2-1 win.

· Bambei has been a force for the Bengals as of late, scoring one goal in each of the last three games including the game-winner against Montana. She has taken 12 total shots with six on goal for three goals for a .250 shot percentage and a .500 shot on goal percentage. Currently, Bambei ranks tied-for-10th in goals in the Big Sky.

· In conference play, the Bengals lead the Big Sky in shots with 65 for a 16.25 shots per game average. Idaho State ranks second in points with 12, second in assists with four and tied-for-second in goals with four. However, ISU ranks second-to-last in the conference in goals allowed as the Bengals have given up five goals in four conference games for a 1.25 per game average.

SCOUTING OPPONENT: SOUTHERN UTAH

· The Thunderbirds are 2-10-0 overall with a 1-3-0 record in conference play. Southern Utah picked up its first conference win Friday, Sept. 29 with a 3-1 win over visiting Idaho. SUU's MaKenzie Lawrence had two goals off two shots in the win, while goalkeeper Kaitlyn Caldera had 11 saves.

· Southern Utah averages 0.92 goals per game with a .129 shot percentage. The Thunderbirds have scored 11 goals with eight assists with a .459 shot on goal percentage.

· Lawrence leads the squad in goals scored with four, while Meghan Deherrera leads the T-birds in assists with three.

· Southern Utah has given up 38 goals on the season for an average of 3.2 per contest. However, the T-birds rank second in the conference in saves per game with a 6.55 saves per game average.

· Southern Utah is led by Head Coach Fred Thompson who is in his first season with the Thunderbirds.

· Idaho State leads the overall series 12-3-0, with a 6-2-0 record in Cedar City. However, the Thunderbirds have won the last two matchups, with a 3-0 win in Pocatello on Oct. 16, 2016.
