POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women's basketball team returns to Pocatello to host Utah State Monday, Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. at the ICCU Court at Reed Gym. It will be the Bengals last home game until Dec. 28.
BENGALS PREVIEW
· The Bengals' four-match win streak was snapped Tuesday, Nov. 21 with an 80-74 loss at Pepperdine. Idaho State struggled from the field, shooting under 40 percent for the first time this season and committed a season-high 24 fouls.
· After five games, the Bengals are averaging 78.8 points per game shooting 47.6 percent from the floor and 48.3 percent from three. ISU averages 44.6 rebounds per game with a +11.6 rebounding margin to go along with 8.4 steals per game and 2.2 blocks per game.
· Four players average double-figures for Idaho State, led by senior guard
Brooke Blair with 16.6 points per game. Junior guard
Saylair Grandon averages 12.2 points per game while sophomore guard Estefania Ors averages 11.4 points per game and sophomore forward
Sai Tapasa adds 10.2 per contest.
· Five Bengals also average at least five rebounds per contest led by Tapasa with 7.8. Junior guard
Grace Kenyon adds 6.8 per contest, sophomore forward Irene Vicente averages 5.8 while Grandon and Ors each average 5.6.
· Head Coach
Seton Sobolewski is in his 10th season with the program and carries a 154-132 overall record (.538) and has led the team to two postseason tournament appearances: one NCAA tournament berth and one WNIT tournament appearance.
SCOUTING UTAH STATE
· The Aggies are 1-3 on the season so far with a win against Dixie State and losses at UC Irvine, against Arizona and at Southern Utah.
· So far this season, Utah State averages 73.0 points per game shooting 44 percent from the floor and 35.8 percent from beyond-the-arc. The Aggies average 39.5 rebounds per game with a -2.0 rebounding margin and 18.3 turnovers per game.
· Three Aggies average double-figures led by Olivia West with 19.8 points per game. Rachel Brewster adds 13.5 while Shannon Dufficy averages 10.0. Dufficy also leads the team in rebounds per contest with a 12.3 average.
· Utah State relies heavily on its starting five, as West, Brewster and Dufficy all average 30 or more minutes per contest. Eliza West is close behind with a 29.5 per game average.
· The Aggies are led by Head Coach Jerry Finkbeiner who is in his sixth year with the program.
· SERIES REVIEW: Idaho State leads the overall series 17-15 and have won seven on the last nine. In the last meeting, Utah State defeated the Bengals 69-56 in Logan on Dec. 1, 2016.
