Women's Basketball Faces Utah Valley Saturday

POCATELLO, Idaho –
The Idaho State women's basketball team hits the road to one final time before the holiday break, traveling face Utah Valley Dec. 16 at 3 p.m. in Orem, Utah.

BENGALS PREVIEW

· Idaho State got back on the winning track in style with a 64-62 overtime win at Hawai'i on Dec. 8 for its first win against the Rainbow Wahine in program history. Senior guard Brooke Blair finished with 20 points in the win while sophomore forward Sai Tapasa added a career-high 17 points and a career-high 13 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.

· Through nine games, the Bengals are averaging 70.0 points per game shooting 43.3 percent from the floor and a conference-best 41.3 percent from three. ISU averages 41.6 rebounds per game with a +8.9 rebounding margin to go along with 7.7 steals per game and 1.9 blocks per game. The Bengals also boast a conference-best +8.8 scoring margin.

· Idaho State is led in scoring by Blair at 14.8 points per game. Three other Bengals average at least 10 points: Saylair Grandon, 10.7; Grace Kenyon, 10.3; and Sai Tapasa, 10.0. Estefania Ors is close behind at an even 8.0 per game.

· Tapasa leads the rebounding effort with a 7.1 per game average while Grandon and Kenyon each average over five per game with 5.8 and 5.4 respectively.

 MAKING WAVES IN THE ALOHA STATE

For the first time in program history, Idaho State defeated Hawai'i. The Bengals battled the Rainbow Wahine for 45 minutes, earning the 64-62 overtime win. Though it was close throughout (neither team led by more than 10 points), Idaho State claimed the lead for 31:29 of the 45 total minutes. With the win, the Bengals are now 1-3 against Hawai'i, including a 1-2 mark in Manoa, HI.

SCOUTING UTAH VALLEY

· The Wolverines are 4-6 so far on the season and have won four of the last five after starting 0-5. Utah Valley has picked up wins against Dixie State, Southern Utah, Air Force and Utah State, all at home.

· Through 10 games, UVU averages 56.2 points per game shooting 35.6 percent from the floor and 30.7 percent from three. The Wolverines average 30.3 rebounds per game, on average 8.9 fewer than their opponents.

· Two players average double-figures for UVU, led by Taylor Christensen at 16.0 per contest. Mariah Seals is good for 11.6 points per game. Christensen also leads the charge in rebounding, hauling in an average of 4.8 per contest.

· The Wolverines are led by Head Coach Cathy Nixon who is in her 23rd season with Utah Valley.

· SERIES REVIEW: Idaho State leads the series 8-5 and has won four of the last five meetings. In the last meeting, Idaho State bested the Wolverines 61-56 in Pocatello on Dec. 20, 2016.
