POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women's basketball team opens conference play against Weber State Saturday, Dec. 30 at 2 p.m. at the ICCU Court at Reed Gym.
BENGALS PREVIEW
· Idaho State's 8-3 record ties the best record in school history through the first 11 games. Two other teams have matched that record: the1976-77 team and the 2007-08 team. The 1976-77 squad finished 15-4 on the season while the 2007-08 team went on to finish 20-10 and advanced to the WNIT.
· Through 11 games, the Bengals are averaging 71.2 points per game shooting a conference-best 44.6 percent from the floor and a conference-best 41.0 percent from three. ISU averages 42.0 rebounds per game with a +10.2 rebounding margin to go along with 7.6 steals per game and 15.4 assists per game. The Bengals also boast a conference-best +11.7 scoring margin.
· Idaho State is led in scoring by Blair at 13.9 points per game. Two other Bengals average at least 10 points:
Grace Kenyon, 10.7 and
Sai Tapasa at 10.2.
Saylair Grandon and Estefania Ors are close behind at 9.9 and 9.5 per game respectively.
· Tapasa leads the rebounding effort with a 6.9 per game average while Kenyon averages 6.3 per contest.
SCOUTING WEBER STATE
· The Wildcats are 8-3 on the year with a 6-1 record at home and a 2-2 record on the road. WSU will have had a 10-day break since its last game come Saturday; the Wildcats fell 81-78 at Fresno State in a loss that snapped a three-game win streak.
· Through 11 games, WSU is averaging 73.5 points per game (3rd in Big Sky) shooting 43.5 percent from the floor (2nd in Big Sky). The Wildcats average 36.0 rebounds per contest (10th in Big Sky) while giving up 40.3 boards (8th in Big Sky).
· Larryn Brooks leads the offense with 19.9 points per game, good for third in the conference. Kailie Quinn and J'aiamoni Welch Coleman each chip in 9.7 points per contest. Quinn, a senior out of Salt Lake City, is two points shy of reaching 1,000 career points.
· WSU is led by seventh-year Head Coach Bethann Ord who carries a 64-128 overall record with the Wildcats.
· SERIES REVIEW: This will be the 84th meeting between the two programs. The Wildcats lead the series 46-37, and the series is tied 21-21 in games played in Pocatello. In the last meeting, Idaho State defeated WSU 57-52 in Pocatello on Jan. 28, 2017.
