FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Idaho State women's tennis team fell 4-3 at league-leading Northern Arizona Tuesday afternoon at the Aquatic and Tennis Complex in Flagstaff, Ariz.
"The girls adapted well today to the high altitude and wind," Head Coach
Gretchen Maloney. "The doubles point was crucial again for us today."
Northern Arizona (10-3, 5-0 BSC) claimed the doubles point early to take the early advantage. The Lumberjacks continued to roll into singles play, winning the next three singles matches. Idaho State (4-8, 3-3 BSC) battled back, closing the match with three straight singles wins.
Angela Walker gave ISU its first singles win at the No. 6 position as she bested Eirene Granville 6-4, 7-6.
Huibre-Mare Botes followed with a three set win over Blanka Szavay, 6-3, 6-7, 10-8 and
Louise-Mare Botes finished the match with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win at the No. 3 singles position.
"Angela played really smart and was very consistent today against a big hitter," Maloney said. "Huibre was solid for us today, playing hard and tactically smart while Louise battled for each point and never gave up for us."
Idaho State continues play on the road at Arizona Christian on Wednesday, March 22.
