POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women's tennis team clinched their first trip to the Big Sky Conference Tournament since 2004 with a 7-0 victory over visiting Eastern Washington Saturday afternoon at the tennis courts at Reed Gym.
"Incredible fight today," Head Coach
Gretchen Maloney said. "The girls battled so hard and played smart under pressure. Doubles play started a little slow, but we picked it up and came out on top. In singles play we were successful at controlling the tempo and slowing down their play. It was really fun to win 7-0 for a final home match."
In doubles play, Eastern Washington (5-12, 3-5 BSC) took the first match 6-1 at No. 3 singles, but Idaho State (8-10, 6-4 BSC) won the final two doubles matches to take the doubles point.
Hristina Cvetkovic and
Megan Poe starting things off with a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles and
Huibre-Mare Botes and
Louise-Mare Botes secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win at the No. 1 doubles position.
In singles play, the Bengals rattled off six-straight wins to earn the 7-0 win.
Idaho State closes the regular-season at Southern Utah April 22. The match is set to begin at 10 a.m.
