CEDAR CITY, Utah – The Idaho State women's tennis team closed the regular season with a win as the Bengals bested Southern Utah 5-2 at the Thunderbird Tennis Courts in Cedar City, Utah.
"It was great to play outside today to get ready for the conference tournament," Head Coach
Gretchen Maloney said. "We started really strong in doubles play, and everyone was very consistent which allowed us to get a lot of free points. Overall, everyone showed good positivity and handled adversity well."
Idaho State (9-10, 7-4 BSC) started out strong, winning the first two matches in doubles play to take the doubles point and the early lead.
Hristina Cvetkovic and
Megan Poe bested Laura Martin Lozano and Teresa Enrique Schmidt 6-4 while
Melissa Coburn and
Madison Fenske defeated Cloe Stocking and Charity Sagiao 6-2.
In singles play, the Bengals won four-of-six matches to best Southern Utah (3-19, 2-8 BSC) 5-2 for the match.
Idaho State heads to Phoenix, Ariz. to compete in the Big Sky Conference championship April 27-30. It is ISU's first post season appearance since 2004.
