POCATELLO, Idaho –
The Idaho State soccer team continues play at home this weekend with three games in five days at Davis Field. The Bengals kick things off against Utah State Friday, Sept. 1, then host UTEP Sunday, Sept. 3 and close their homestand with Hawai'i on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

BENGAL PREVIEW

· Last Time Out: Idaho State fell to Boise State 1-0 in its home opener on Aug. 27. Though ISU recorded 16 shots in the match only three were on goal. Boise State capitalized on a penalty shot opportunity in the first half to earn the 1-0 win.

· Working out the kinks: Though the Bengals returned the most depth in years with 18 letter winners, a new game strategy and eight newcomers brings a learning curve. "[Boise State] was only our third game of the season, and I think as we continue to learn and come out of that bad performance in the first half and make adjustments, things are going to get better," said Head Coach Allison Gibson.

· Scoring Power: Three of ISU's top four goal scorers return for this season, led by sophomore forward Michaela Didericksen who netted a team-best seven goals last season. Junior midfielder Meaghan Bare and junior midfielder Esmeralda Nunez also return for ISU after recorded two goals each a season ago. Both Didericksen and Bare have already recorded a goal this season.

SCOUTING OPPONENTS

UTAH STATE: The Aggies are 2-1-1 on the season with wins against South Dakota State and Montana. Utah State fell 2-0 at No. 18 Utah followed by a 1-1 tie against Cal State Fullerton on Sunday.
· Utah State has scored four goals on the season to 39 shots, a .103 shot percentage. 15 of those 39 shot attempts have been on goal for a .385 shot on goal percentage.

· USU's Ashley Cardozo leads the offensive attack with two goals on the season, and she leads the Aggies with nine total shot attempts. Three different playes have recorded an assist this season: Wesley Hamblin, Amber Marshall and Brinley Adams.

· The Aggies are led by Head Coach Heather Cairns who is in her 15th season.

· Utah State claims the advantage in the series with a 9-6-1 overall record against ISU. The Aggies have won the last three meetings with ISU's last win coming on Sept. 13, 2012 in Logan.

UTEP: The Miners are 0-4-0 on the season with losses to New Mexico State, Abilene Christian, CSU Bakersfield and New Mexico.

· UTEP is coming off a 13-7-2 record in 2016--it's most wins since 2009--including a run to the semifinals of the 2016 Conference USA Championships. But 20 underclassmen made for an inexperienced roster despite returning 13 letter winners and six starters.

· So far this season, UTEP has two goals on 41 shot attempts for a 0.50 shot percentage. 19 of those 41 attempts have been on goal for a .463 shot on goal percentage. Two players have recorded goals, Danielle Carreon and Kennadie Chaudhary, while three players have collected assists, Aylin Villalobos, Vic Bohdan and Isabel Trevino.

· The Miners are led by Head Coach Kevin Cross who is in his 17th season at the helm.

· This is the second time in program history that the Bengals have played the Miners. In the last meeting on Oct. 1, 1999, Idaho State won 2-1 in El Paso, Texas.

HAWAI'I: The Rainbow Wahine are 2-1-0 on the season with wins against Utah Valley and Fairfield. Hawai'i has recorded four goals on the season, two of which have been scored by Raisa Strom-Okimoto, with four assists from four different players.

· UH has attempted 46 shots with four goals for a .087 shot percentage. 20 of those 46 attempts have been on goal for a .435 shot on goal percentage.

BENGAL BITES

SHUTOUT WOES: After a quick start with a 3-0 win at Chicago State, the Bengals have struggled to find the back of the net. The Bengals have been outscored 5-0 in the last two contests; 4-0 in a lopsided loss at Power Five conference program Michigan and a 1-0 loss at home to in-state foe Boise State.

SHARING THE ROCK: Three different Bengals have recorded goals this season: Michaela Didericksen, Kate Leachman and Meaghan Bare. In addition, three different Bengals have collected assists: Tristen Spooner, Corinne Sanderson and Christina Krieger.
