SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.- The Idaho State football team lost 37-14 to Cal Poly on Saturday evening. The Bengals dropped to 6-4 and 5-2 in Big Sky Conference play while Cal Poly improved to 4-6 and 3-4 in league.
Idaho State was held to 367 yards of total offense while Cal Poly finished with 465.
ISU rushed for 167 yards, led by
Ty Flanagan's 86 on 10 carries and one touchdown.
James Madison rushed for 73 on 14 carries.
Tanner Gueller was 21-36 with one touchdown pass and two interceptions. He threw for 200 yards.
Demonte Horton caught four passes for 63 yards.
Mitch Gueller had four receptions for 44 yards.
Michael Dean caught the touchdown pass in the second quarter.
Aren Manu had a career-high 14 tackles and
Christian Holland finished with 13.
Cal Poly led the Bengals 13-7 at halftime. Cal Poly led 6-0 with 11:20 left in the second quarter. Idaho State then marched 82 yards on eight plays to score on a Dean 11-yard touchdown with 7:59 left in the first half.
Just before halftime Joe Protheroe scored on a one-yard run to give the Mustangs a 13-7 lead. The Cal Poly defense forced Gueller into two first half interceptions.
Cal Poly scored on its opening possession of the third quarter to take a 20-7 lead. The Bengals answered with a six play 75 yard drive that capped off with a Flanagan 28-yard touchdown run to cut their deficit to 20-14 with 8:41 left in the third quarter.
Cal Poly then scored 17 fourth quarter points to put the game away.
Cal Poly rushed for 374 yards and Joe Protheroe tallied 260 on 41 carries and one touchdown.
Idaho State closes out the regular season on Nov. 17 vs. No. 3 Weber State. Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m.
