Women's Basketball Plays In Cancun Challenge Over Thanksgiving

POCATELLO, Idaho – Women's basketball is in Mexico and prepared to face two teams in the Cancun Challenge this weekend. The Bengals face Kennesaw State Thanksgiving Day at 7 p.m. and play Georgia Tech Friday at 4:30 p.m.
 
Last Time Out
-Idaho State played its second Pac-12 opponent on Monday and fell 74-60 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Bengals improved as the game went on, shooting 50 percent or better in the third and fourth quarters.
 
-Three players were in double-figures with Kenyon leading the way at 17 points. Madison Hinrichs and Ellie Smith both had career-highs with 10 points. Smith and Kenyon also led the Bengals with six rebounds each. The trio shot a collective 55.1 percent from the field. It was the first time ISU outrebounded its opponent this season.
 
-Both Kenyon and Saylair Grandon are averaging double-digit scoring totals this season. Grandon leads the team with 12.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. Kenyon is second in both categories with 11.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. She also leads the team with four blocks.
 
-Six players average more than 24 minutes per contest with Grandon and Estefania Ors playing 30-plus minutes. Delaney Moore (16.0 minutes) is the player other than Bourne (26.8) coming off the bench and playing more than 10 minutes per game.  Only seven players have appeared in every game this season.
 
-Idaho State averages 57.2 points, 34.5 rebounds, 12.5 assists, 7.0 steals, 2.0 blocks and 19.3 turnovers per game. They have shot 38.6 percent from the floor, 29.2 percent from three and 68.2 percent from the free throw line. Opponents have shot 40.4 percent against Idaho State.
 
-The Bengals were picked to finish third in the Big Sky Coaches' Preseason Poll and fourth by the media.


-Head Coach Seton Sobolewski is in his 11th season with the program and carries a 172-145 overall record. He has led the team to two postseason tournament appearances: one NCAA tournament berth and one WNIT tournament appearance.
 
Scouting Kennesaw State
-Kennesaw State is 2-3 this season with both wins coming at home. They opened the season with an 80-70 win over Middle Georgia State and lost two before winning its second game against Furman. Their last contest was a 68-56 loss to East Carolina.
 
-Three players are averaging double-digit points this year. Last year's ASUN Freshman of the Year Kamiyah Street has produced 21.2 of the Owls' 68.6 points per game. Alexis Poole is nearly averaging a double-double with 13.6 points and 8.6 rebounds per game while shooting 50.0 percent from the field.
 
-Siminia Avram has been a game manager for KSU with 28 assists. She has also been hot from the field, shooting 61.9 percent from the floor with 5.2 points per game.
 
-The Owls have shot 41.8 percent from the floor and 22.4 percent from three this year. Opponents have shot 44.3 percent overall and 36.7 percent from downtown against KSU.
-Kennesaw State averages 68.6 points, 37.4 rebounds, 13.0 assists, 11.2 steals, 2.2 blocks and 21.4 turnovers per game. Agnus Beranato is in her third season as head coach. In her first two seasons, she led the team to an ASUN Conference Championship and coached back-to-back freshman of the year winners.
 
Idaho State won the lone game played between these two teams. The Bengals defeated the Owls 87-68 in 2007.
 
Scouting Georgia Tech
-Georgia Tech's only loss came in its season opener. The Yellow Jackets lost 95-89 in double overtime to Houston. Since then, they have topped Appalachian State, Western Caro and Geogia by double-digits.
 
-Four of GT's starters average more than 10 points a game; all of them have a 42.9 percent field goal percentage or better. Francesca Pan is the team leader with 16.8 points. Elizabeth Balogun has tallied 13.0 points per game thanks to shooting 46.5 percent three-point range. Elizabeth Dixon leads the team with five blocks and 8.5 boards per contest while contributing 10.3 ppg.
 
The Yellow Jackets have shot 42.2 percent from the field and 36.6 percent from three while holding opponents to a 36.8 field goal percentage and 26.4 three-point average.
 
Georgia Tech collects 76.8 points, 44.0 rebounds, 12.5 assists, 13.3 steals, 3.5 blocks and 21.0 turnovers per game. MaChelle Joseph is in her 16th season as head coach at Georgia Tech. She has led GT to 11 postseason appearances including seven NCAA Tournament berths and holds a 294-191 career record.
 
This will be the first meeting between ISU and GT.
