POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women's basketball team faces Idaho Thursday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. MST in Moscow in the third event of the Battle of the Domes series, presented by Idaho Central Credit Union.
BENGALS PREVIEW
· Idaho State picked up its third-straight win Saturday afternoon with a 72-64 win over visiting Portland State. The Bengals finished with five players in double-figures for only the third time this season, led by
Grace Kenyon's near triple-double of 16 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.
· Through 25 games, the Bengals are averaging 71.0 points per game shooting 45.2 percent from the floor to lead the Big Sky and 36.3 percent from three. ISU averages 38.3 rebounds per game with a +5.7 rebounding margin to go along with 7.5 steals per game and 14.8 assists per game. The Bengals also boast a conference-best +9.1 scoring margin.
· Idaho State is led in scoring by Blair at 13.4 points per game.
Grace Kenyon and
Estefania Ors also average double-figures for the Bengals at 12.6 and 10.7 points per game, respectively.
· Kenyon leads the rebounding effort with 6.7 rebounds per contest while
Sai Tapasa adds 6.3. Grandon is the only other Bengal to average at least five rebounds at 5.0 per game.
· Head Coach
Seton Sobolewski is in his 10th season with the program and carries a 167-139 overall record (.546) and has led the team to two postseason tournament appearances: one NCAA tournament berth and one WNIT tournament appearance.
SCOUTING IDAHO
· The Vandals are currently the hottest team in the conference as they boast a nine-game winning streak for sole possession of second place with an 11-3 conference record and a 15-10 overall record.
· Through 25 games, Idaho averages 74.4 to lead the Big Sky, shooting 43.7 percent from the floor and 37.4 percent from long range. The Vandals also average 39.1 rebounds per game, 15.1 assists per game and 14.0 turnovers per game. Idaho leads the conference in three pointers made per game with 10.8.
· Three players average double-figures for the Vandals, led by Mikayla Ferenz with 22.8 points per game, which also leads the Big Sky. Geraldine McCorkell and Taylor Pierce also average double figures with 16.4 and 14.8 points per game, respectively.
· Pierce and Ferenz both set the Big Sky record for threes made in a single season as Pierce hit five first-half threes at Montana to reach 99 made threes; Ferenz then passes Pierce with six threes to reach 100 made treys on the year.
· The Vandals are led by Head Coach Jon Newlee who is in his 10th season.
· SERIES REVIEW: Idaho leads the all-time series 28-13 with a 17-2 advantage in Moscow. In their last meeting, ISU bested the Vandals 80-69 in Pocatello on Feb. 23, 2017.
