RENO, Nev. – The Idaho State women's basketball team faces No. 4 Weber State Wednesday, March 7 at 3:35 p.m. MST in the quarterfinals of the Big Sky Conference Tournament at the Reno Events Center in Reno, Nev.
BENGALS PREVIEW
· Idaho State halted a fourth-quarter comeback attempt to defeat Southern Utah 59-49 in the first round of the Big Sky Conference Tournament. The Bengals were led by
Estefania Ors with a season-high 20 points including 4-of-7 from long range.
Saylair Grandon added 16 points and
Brooke Blair finished with 11.
· Through 30 games, the Bengals are averaging 69.7 points per game shooting 45.6 percent from the floor and 36.4 percent from three. ISU averages 36.8 rebounds per game with a +4.6 rebounding margin to go along with 7.4 steals per game and 14.7 assists per game. The Bengals also boast a conference-best +8.6 scoring margin.
· Idaho State is led in scoring by Blair at 13.3 points per game.
Grace Kenyon and Ors also average double-figures for the Bengals at 12.7 and 10.8 points per game, respectively.
· Kenyon leads the rebounding effort with 6.7 rebounds per contest while
Sai Tapasa adds 5.9 per contest.
· Head Coach
Seton Sobolewski is in his 10th season with the program and carries a 170-141 overall record (.546) and has led the team to two postseason tournament appearances: one NCAA tournament berth and one WNIT tournament appearance.
SCOUTING No. 4 WEBER STATE
· Weber State secured the No. 4 seed and a first-round bye after finishing 12-6 in Big Sky Conference play. The Wildcats are 20-9 on the season; it marks the second time in three seasons the Wildcats have recorded 20 or more wins. During the 2015-16 season, the Wildcats finished 23-12.
· Through 29 games, WSU averages 75.7 points per game shooting 42.2 percent from the floor and 35.9 percent from long range. The Wildcats also average 38.0 rebounds per game and 14.0 assists per game committing just 12.1 turnovers per game for a 1.2 assist-to-turnover ratio.
· Four players average double-figures for WSU led by First-Team All-Conference performer Larryn Brooks at 20.1 points per game. Jaiamoni Welch-Coleman adds 11.2 points, Kailie Quinn chips in 10.8 and Emily Drake adds 10.6. Jocelyn Adams leads the team in rebounds with 8.4 rebounds per game.
· Weber State is led by Head Coach Bethann Ord who is in her seventh season at the helm of the program.
· SERIES REVIEW: WSU leads the series 48-37, but Idaho State claims the edge in Big Sky Conference tournament play with a 2-1 advantage. In the last meeting, Weber State defeated ISU 84-73 in Ogden on Jan. 27.
