Softball Drops 2 at Weber State

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team dropped a doubleheader to Weber State on Friday afternoon in Ogden, Utah. A late rally fell short in game 1 as ISU lost 7-5 and then the Bengals lost 10-1 in five innings.

Idaho State had 18 hits on the day. Cassidy FitzGerald, Shayna Dahlen and Frankie Tago each had three hits.  

Ashlyn Ames took the loss in game 1. She pitched six innings, allowing 11 hits, seven runs, one walk and two strikeouts. Mariah Mulcahy suffered the loss in game 2, allowing 11 hits, 10 runs, three walks and three strikeouts.

In game 1, Weber State led 2-0 after the first inning. The Bengals tied the game at two in the second inning. Kelsey Breer led off with a double to left field and Dahlen singled to center field. FitzGerald then had an RBI on a single to center field. Dahlen scored later in the inning on a stolen base.

Weber State scored four runs in the third inning to take a 6-2 lead. In the top of the sixth inning ISU scored three runs to cut the Wildcat lead to 6-5.

Ames led off with a homer to left field and Tago followed with a single.  Emma Bordenkecher then reached on a fielder's choice and she would score on a triple by Breer. FitzGerald platted the final run on a single to left field.

Weber State scored one run in the bottom half of the inning to take a 7-5 lead.

The Bengals rallied in the seventh inning as Haley Harrison led off with a single to center field and Ames then walked. Tago advanced the runners to second and third on a ground out. Bordenkecher then reached on a fielder's choice but Harrison was called out at the plate. The rally ended when Bordenkecher was out on a fielder's choice.

In game 2, the score was tied at one after the top of the second inning. Weber State then scored five runs in the bottom half of the inning, three in the third and one in the fourth to earn the 10-1 win.

The series concludes Saturday at 12 p.m. in Ogden.
