Women's Basketball Sweeps Sacramento State with 56-42 Win

POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State women's basketball completed a 2018-19 sweep of Sacramento State with a 56-42 win on the road Thursday night. With the win, ISU improved to 13-6 with an 8-2 Big Sky mark while SAC fell to 7-10 and 3-6 in conference play.

The Bengals shot 45.2 percent from the field while going 50.0 percent from the three-point line (8-16) and the defense remained obstinate. The Hornets were limited to a 23.7 field goal percentage and went just 2-25 from behind the arc in the loss.

"I thought we did a good job of getting out there and contesting shots," said Head Coach Seton Sobolewski. "Not 100 percent like we did it perfect every single time, but I think we made them hurry."

Grace Kenyon filled the stat sheet with 17 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and a block in 39 minutes of play. The senior was 7-13 from the field and 2-4 from downtown.

Montana Oltrogge saw her first extended action since returning to the lineup and sparked the long-ball shooting. The freshman was 3-4 from three-point range to match her career high in points with 11 and grabbed a career-high five rebounds. Delaney Moore also provided a spark off the bench with nine points and six rebounds.

The Bengals were out in front early with Kenyon stretching the lead to seven with just under two minutes remaining in the first quarter. The Hornets responded with a 9-3 scoring run to cut the deficit to one point after the first period.

Sacramento State scored the opening basket of the second quarter to claim the lead for the only time in the game. A three-point basket from Saylair Grandon put ISU back on top and they limited SAC to just two more points before the half, surging to a 36-17 advantage. The Hornets were unable to come closer than 12 points as the Bengals defeated them on their home court.

Hannah Friend led Sacramento State with a double-double after collecting 13 points and 10 rebounds. Tiara Scott was the only other Hornet in double figures with 10 points. Kennedy Nicholas was a factor on the boards with a game-leading 12 rebounds but was just 3-10 from the field with eight points.

Next up for Idaho State is the Portland State Vikings. PSU is 7-2 in conference play and has been comfortable at home with a 11-1 record. The game will begin at 3:05 p.m. (MT).
