Bengals Win 88-61 in Orem

POCATELLO, Idaho-
The Idaho State women's basketball team defeated the Utah Valley Wolverines, 88-61, in Orem, Utah on Tuesday night.

Idaho State shot a season-high 59.6 percent from the field (34-57) and 47.6 percent from the three-point line (10-21). The Bengals also had a season-high 27 assists, led by Estefania Ors with seven, Dora Goles with five, and Callie Bourne with four. Ellie Smith had two of the teams three blocks. 

"Life is a lot easier when you hit shots," said Head Coach Seton Sobolewski.

The Bengals scored 27 points off of UVU's 18 turnovers.

Goles led the team with a career-high 19 points. She hit a career-high 5 3's and tied a career-best mark with seven field goals. The redshirt junior also produced three boards, three steals, and tied her season-high in assists with five.

Ors and Bourne each added 15 points for the Bengals. Ors was 5-11 from the field, 2-4 from 3, and 3-4 from the free throw line. Bourne shot 7-10 from the field and grabbed a career-high 11 boards.

Diaba Konate recorded a career-high eight points, going 3-4 from the field. The redshirt freshman also had three assists and two steals.

The Bengals led 23-11 at the end of the first quarter. Goles scored 11 points, going 4-5 from the field and 3-4 from three-point range. ISU shot 64 percent (9-14) from the field and 67 percent (4-6) from beyond the three-point arc in the quarter. Idaho State held the Wolverines scoreless for the final two and a half minutes to jump out to the 12 point lead.

Montana Oltrogge scored 10 points in the second quarter, eight coming off of Wolverine turnovers, giving the Bengals a 45-25 lead heading into halftime. The sophomore went 3-5 from the field while hitting two 3's, two free throws, and recording two steals.

Idaho State out-rebounded the Wolverines 21-20 in the first half while shooting 59 percent (16-27) from the field and 55 percent (6-11) from three. The Bengals led for 17:45 minutes of the half.

Bourne led the team in the third quarter with seven points off a deep three and two lay-ups. The Wolverines went on a 7-0 run with 3:45 left in the third before Idaho State would go on a 7-2 run to end the quarter and lead 68-46.

Bourne helped extend the Bengal lead to 88-61 in the fourth by hitting all three of her field goal attempts.  ISU went on a 17-9 run to end the game.  The Bengals shot 60 percent (18-30) from the field in the second half and 40 percent (4-10) from 3.

"I am really proud of how ready we were to play tonight," said Sobolewski.
