Bengals Host UVU on Tuesday in Home Opener

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team plays its home opener on Tuesday, March 19 vs. Utah Valley University. The doubleheader starts at 12 p.m. at Miller Ranch Stadium. Live audio and stats will be available at isubengals.com.  Mark Liptak will also call the game on KISU 91.1.  Idaho State then begins Big Sky Conference play at home against Portland State on March 23-24.

Scouting UVU
Utah Valley comes into Tuesday with a 7-10 record.  The Wolverines last 5 games have come against Big Sky Conference foes. UVU beat SUU 12-6 and 13-6 and then went 1-2 vs. Montana, losing 10-3 and 5-4 before winning 12-8.
Peyton Angulu leads the UVU offense with a .586 average. (17-29). Lyndsay Steverson is hitting .418 with five home runs and 21 RBIs. Abby Doughty is hitting .393 and the team is hitting .321.  Devyn Cretz leads the pitching staff with a 5-4 record and a 6.63 era.

Recapping Week 5 at UC Riverside
Idaho State went 1-3 at the UC Riverside Tournament last weekend. The Bengals went 1-2 vs. Northern Kentucky. Idaho State lost 7-5 and 3-0 before winning 2-1. The Bengals lost to UC Riverside 5-2. Amber Arreola and Aubrey Creekmore both hit .417 in the four games, going 5-12. Each had an RBI. Haley Harrison hit .400 and was 2-2 stealing bases. Emma Bordenkecher hit two home runs and had three RBIs.

In the circle, Kelsea Sweeney earned the win, pitching six innings against Northern Kentcky. For the weekend she had a .81 era in 8.2 innings of work.  She had seven strikeouts and allowed 10 hits. Mariah Mulcahy pitched 8.2 innings and Autumn Pease saw eight innings of work.

Cassidy FitzGerald leads the team at the plate with a .393 batting average. Emma Bordenkecher has a .315 average with four home runs and a team-best 15 RBIs. Haley Harrison is batting .316 and Aubrey Creekmore is batting .308.
