Game 4 Preview: Idaho State Begins Big Sky Play vs. Portland State in Holt Arena

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State football team returns home to begin Big Sky Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 28 vs. Portland State. Kickoff is at 3 p.m. in Holt Arena. Jerry Miller and Mark Liptak will call the game live on 102.5 KMGI with the pregame show beginning at 2 p.m. For live stats, audio and video log onto isubengals.com. About Portland State 
Portland State is 2-2 with two wins over lower Division schools and two losses to FBS schools. The Vikings beat Simon Fraser 70-7 and Eastern Oregon 59-9. Portland State lost to Arkansas 20-13 and Boise State 45-10. The Vikings average 38 points a game and give up 20.2. Portland State rushes for 186.5 yards a game and passes for 257.8. The Viking offense averages 444.2 yards a game and gives up only 283. 

Quarterback Davis Alexander has thrown for 872 yards and nine touchdowns while rushing for 126 yards.  Davis Koetter is the top receiver as he has caught 13 balls for 239 yards and three touchdowns. Romeo Gunt leads the defense with 22 tackles. 

Bengal Bites
- In the last 10 years Idaho State is 4-6 in its Big Sky Conference opener. The Bengals are 3-2 in the last five years in conference openers. Idaho State has won two of its last three Big Sky openers, beating North Dakota, 25-21 last year and Sac State in 2016. The Bengals lost their conference opener at Northern Colorado, 43-42 in 2017. 
- Since 2003 the winning team between Idaho State and Portland State has scored at least 30 points. In the last three meetings the winning team has scored 45 points or more. 

Notes From Game 3 at Northern Iowa 
- Jay Irvine had a season-high four tackles. 
- Kevin Ryan made a career-long 42-yard field goal. 
-Nehemiah McFarlin saw his first action since the 2017 season with two second-half carries. 
- Michael Deans 23-yard punt return was the longest since Kieran Yancy had a 58-yarder vs. Western Colorado in the 2018 season opener. 
- The last time Idaho State held a Division 1 team to 13 points or loss was a 12-10 loss to No. 2 Montana on Nov. 7, 2009. 
- Connor Wills had his first career start.
