POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State women's basketball took down Montana State University 69-59 in Reed Gym on Thursday night.
The game was close the entire way as the Bengals biggest lead was only 12 points in the final seconds of the fourth quarter.
Idaho State led 19-13 after the first quarter thanks to the Bengals shooting 60 percent from the three-point line (3-5).
With the score tied at 19 early in the second quarter, Idaho State went on an 11-4 run to take a 30-23 lead with 3:20 left in the first half thanks to a Montana Oltrogge 3-pointer. ISU shot 50 percent in the second quarter from the field and held the Bobcats to 33 percent shooting.
ISU led 32-29 at halftime. MSU tied the game in the opening seconds of the third quarter. ISU then went on a 9-0 run to lead 41-32 with 8:03 left in the third after four straight points by Delaney Moore.
Goles sparked the Bengals in the quarter with seven points
In the fourth quarter, Ellie Smith had a block, and Estefania Ors closed out the game with a 3-pointer with five seconds left on the clock to give ISU its biggest lead at 69-57.
The Bengal's defense played a big role in their game, with 26 defensive rebounds, 36 rebounds overall. Idaho State held the Bobcats to 13 points below their scoring average.
Callie Bourne grabbed seven rebounds while Ors and Diaba Konate tied for five. `
Oltrogge was the game's leading scorer with 14 points overall. Konate was right behind with 11 points, and Ellie Smith with 10.
The Bengals are 12-1 in conference play and 10-0 inside Reed Gym. They play again at Montana State University on Saturday Feb. 20 at 12 p.m.
