POCATELLO, Idaho - The Idaho State men's tennis team competes in its final home match of the season Friday, April 24 against Sacramento State University at 12 p.m. in Reed Gym.
Fans will be allowed to attend the match where the Bengals will be honoring their seniors
Jaime Castillo-Lopez and
Gary Rendek.
"This is a really special weekend for our program and for our seniors," said Head Coach
Alexander Free. "Gary and Jaime have been the backbone of this program throughout this whole season by leading on and off the court and I'm thrilled that they get to play their last regular season match at home here in Reed. We know what is on the line Friday, we just need to stick with our process and play one point at a time until we cross the finish line."
Playing just one season for the Bengals, Castillo-Lopez holds a winning record in both singles and doubles play. Playing between the No. 2 to 5 spot in the line-up he has 7 total wins in singles. At the No. 3 spot in doubles, he has 8 wins alongside partner and fellow senior Rendek.
After three years with the Bengals, Rendek leaves with 31 doubles wins and 15 singles wins. Rendek helped the team make the conference tournament back in 2019 and looks to return in his final season.
The dual match between ISU and Sacramento State holds high stakes for conference qualifications. With the conference season cut in half, the Bengals are currently 1-1 after their 4-3 win vs. Weber State last weekend. The win against the Hornets would guarantee a spot at the Big Sky Conference tournament as the second seed in the South Division.
Sacramento State holds a 3-10 record heading into the match. They are 0-1 in conference after falling to Northern Arizona University 4-3.
