POCATELLO, Idaho - The Idaho State softball team battled hard but ultimately fell to SUU 6-4 in game three of its series Saturday afternoon.
The TBirds got on the board first with solo home runs in the first and second innings. The Bengals were quick to respond. After Isabel Cargill and Rheanne Lewis got on base, Emma Bordenkecher hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Cargill. Frankie Tago then came to bat and brought in Lewis tying the game at 2-2.
SUU would bring in four runs in the top of the 6th to make it 6-2.
The Bengals responded with an RBI double by Frankie Tago. Shea Perkins then hit a single bringing in another Bengal run to make the game 6-4 headed into the seventh.
Southern Utah was able to hold off the Bengals attack in the bottom of the seventh and end the game with the 6-4 victory.
The Bengals had five hits and four runs in the game. Tago led the team with two RBIs. Lewis scored two runs on two at bats. Â
In 5.1 innings pitched, Emma McMurray gave up eight hits and had two strike outs. Mailee Newman coming in as relief gave up one hit in 1.2 innings and had one strikeout.
The Bengals are back in action on Tuesday, Apr. 6 as they travel across the state to take on Boise State at 2:00 p.m.
