Men's Tennis Concludes Opening Tournament at Air Force

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's tennis team opened the 2021 fall season this past weekend at the Bedford Cup, hosted by the Air Force Academy.

In the Silver Draw, Wikus Robbertse took the win in his first match against Marcos Zelver of Montana State with a score of 2-6, 6-3, 6-1. Robbertse lost his next match but finished strong with two more wins.

Idaho State's Ege Cankus played a strong match in the Blue Daw against Thomas Lake. Cankus won the match with a score of 6-4, 6-3. Later in the tournament, Cankus had a big win against Peter Sallay with a final score of 6-4, 6-2.

"This was a good opportunity for our guys this weekend," Idaho State coach Alexander Free said. "We saw some really good things and a lot of things that need to be worked on moving forward throughout the fall and into the spring. We are going to go back to Pocatello and look forward to our ITA regional tournament next week." 

Men's tennis competes on September 21-25 at the ITA Regionals in Provo, Utah.
