Soccer Set to Open Big Sky Play this Weekend

POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State soccer is back home at Davis Field for Homecoming to open up Big Sky Conference play. The Bengals will face off against Eastern Washington on Friday, Sept. 24 at 7:00 p.m. Then It's an ICCU Battle of the Domes match between the Bengals and the University of Idaho Vandals Sunday, Sept. 26 at 12:00 p.m.

All fans that show a ticket stub from this weekend's football game will recieve free admission to the match on Sunday.

Bengal Bites

·        The Bengals are looking to open Big Sky Conference play strong and pick up their first win against a conference opponent.

·        Deborah Pond is off to a hot start. Pond has a team leading 31 shots and three goals with a .419 shot on goal percentage.

·        Gabby Warta is second in the team standings with 16 shots.

·        The Bengal keepers have combined for 61 total saves this season with McKayla Wetsel leading the team with 45 saves in eight games played.

Previous match vs CSUB

Idaho State soccer fell to CSU Bakersfield 1-0 on a rainy Sunday afternoon in Pocatello, Idaho.

The Bengals had 20 shots in the game, the most since Sept. 2019.

Deborah Pond had eight shots with four on goal. Gabby Warta had four and Peyton Dion and Kaylyn Buchanan both tacked on three each.

The Bengal defense held the roadrunners to zero shots in the first half. In the second half, the Bengal defense continued to hold strong until the 85th minute when the roadrunners were able to sneak a goal past ISU Keeper McKayla Wetsel.

The Bengals tied their season high in corners with seven.
