Gallery: (9-25-2021) Idaho State vs. Sacramento State
POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State football team lost 23-21 to Sacramento State on Saturday afternoon in Holt Arena.
Idaho State had 281 yards of total offense. The Bengals had 135 on the ground with
Malakai Rango rushing for 66 yards on 19 carries.
Hunter Hays threw for 107 yards, one touchdown and had two interceptions.
Tyler Vander Waal was 3-9 for 39 yards and a touchdown before leaving with an injury.
Benjamin Omayebu had three receptions for 39 yards and a touchdown. He also returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter.
Tanner Conner's one reception was a 33-yards touchdown reception.
Connor Wills led the defense with 14 tackles.
The Hornets took a 7-0 lead with 47 seconds left in the first quarter. On the ensuing kickoff Omayebu returned the kick 99 yards to the end zone to tie the game at seven.
Sac State answered with a touchdown with 10:07 left in the first half to take a 14-7 lead. ISU countered with a touchdown of its own when Vander Waal found Omayebu in the end zone for a 29-yard reception.
Four minutes later
Tanner Conner caught a 33-yard touchdown strike from Hays to give ISU the 21-14 lead at halftime.
Sacramento State had two field goals in the third quarter and one in the fourth to take the 23-21 lead.
Idaho State plays at NAU on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 2 p.m. (MST).

- This is the first Homecoming loss since a 45-28 defeat to Eastern Washington on Oct. 17, 2015.
