POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State football team beat Cal Poly 40-31 on Saturday afternoon on Homecoming at Holt Arena.
The Bengals led the entire way and scored a season-best 40 points and tallied 495 yards in the victory.
The Bengals rushed for 293 yards, the ninth most in a game since 2007.
Hunter Hays was 17-23 with one touchdown, one interception and 202 passing yards.
The Bengals had three plays of 50 yards or more, all resulting in touchdowns.
Xavier Guillory had a 71-yard touchdown reception.
Keoua Kauhi had a 60-yard touchdown run and
Benjamin Omayebu had a 51-yard touchdown scamper on the opening drive of the game.
The Bengal defense was led by
Charles Ike's nine tackles and two interceptions. The Bengal defense picked off Mustang quarterback Spencer Brasch four times as
Josh Alford and
Jihad Brown also had picks.
Calvin Pitcher also recovered a fumble.
Kauhi led the Bengal running attach with 80 yards on seven carries and one touchdown. Omayebu had 74 yards on 10 carries and one touchdown while
Raiden Hunter finished 13 carries for 57 yards and a touchdown.
Guillory led the receiving attack, tying his career in yards with 120.
Idaho State jumped out to a 14-0 lead with 9:25 left in the first quarter after Omayebu's 51-yard run and Hunter's two-yard run.
Idaho State led 24-7 at halftime thanks to Kauhi's 60 yard run and
Ian Hershey's 47 yard field goal.
The Bengals built a 37-14 with 10:32 left in the third quarter. Cal Poly would rally to cut the ISU lead to 37-31 with 9:05 remaining in the contest. But the Bengal defense forced Cal Poly to punt on the ensuing possession and then Ike came up with his second interception of the game with 3:16 left in the game.
Alford then sealed the win with an interception on Cal Poly's final drive of the game.
Idaho State hosts NAU on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 1 p.m. in Holt Arena.
