Idaho State Can't Stop the Broncos

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Bengal volleyball team wrapped up their first two regular season matches on Friday and Sunday as they played a home-and-away series with Boise State.

In the match at Boise, we saw the Bengals fall to the Broncos in straight sets, 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 32-30). Jamie Streit and Sadie Bluth led the way for Idaho State in this match, each finishing with nine kills apiece, and freshman, Jaydin Watts, finished with eight. Lauren Mena ended the match with 19 assists and Aliyah Sopo'aga finished with 11. On the defensive end for Idaho State libero, Lily Liekweg, had 12 digs.

On Sunday for the match in Pocatello the Bengals came in seeking revenge for their season opening loss just two days prior, but could not get it done, falling in three sets (28-26, 25-18, 25-23). After taking a 24-20 lead in the first set Idaho State looked prime to end the first set on a bang and take their momentum into the second, however the Broncos rattled off five straight points to take the first set to extras and ended up winning the set 28-26. Once gained momentum they were tough to stop, taking the second set by storm, winning 25-18. In the final set Idaho State hung with Boise State till the final point, coming up just short 25-23. Freshman, Jaydin Watts led the team with eight kills followed by sophomore, Meline Robarge, who had seven for ISU. Aliyah Sopo'aga ended the match with 14 assists and Lauren Mena finished with 13, and on the defensive end for Idaho State libero, Lily Liekweg, had 11 digs and Aliyah Sopo'aga finished with 9.

Idaho State travels to the southeast to Tampa, Florida for the University of South Florida tournament. At this tourney the Bengals will be facing off with USF, Florida Gulf Coast, and Mercer.
